PGSU Kohima annual sports meet 2015 begins

The four-day annual sports meet of the Post Graduate Students’ Union, Nagaland University Campus Kohima (PGSU- NUCK), Meriema got underway today at Tsiesema Basa Local Ground with Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, New & Renewable Energy and Music Task Force Khriehu Liezietsu as the chief guest of the inaugural function.
Addressing the students’, Khriehu while expressing that sports has become a lucrative avenue throughout the world said with the advancement of information technology, TV and internet the younger generation are given ample opportunity to upgrade their skills but with dedication and sincerity.
Besides, the professional aspect of sports, it is also necessary towards maintain good health and also buildup better friendship.
He also opined that youngsters should be encouraged to take keen interest in sports, adding that it will definitely contribute towards building a better society. Stating that some of the richest people on this planet are sportspersons, he said “these people earn a lot of money, some of them earning amounts in a single day that many officers will not even earn throughout their service or throughout their lives.”
Citing example of cricket-crazy place like India, he said the opportunities offered by IPL are higher than many European sports events and talented youngsters in this field have very good prospect. He aspired that PGSU sports meet will go a long way in promoting friendship and unity among the various departments under Nagaland University.
Expressing that indigenous Naga wrestling is played to settle disputes and also to promote brotherhood, he said “whichever way we take up sports, one of the most important attributes of games and sports is discipline.
He also acknowledged the Naga youth excelling in various fields like archery, football, athletics etc.
PGSU NUCK president Kegwayhun Tep delivered presidential address while games & sports secretary Roko D Vadeo administered oath to the participating teams. The four day long sports meet will witness the students divided into four groups to compete in events like football, volley ball and athletics. Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) president Tongpang Ozukum will grace the closing ceremony as guest of honour on April 17 at 3pm.
