Dimapur, June 18 (EMN): The Zeliangrong Civil Organisations (ZCOs) comprising of Zeliangrong Baudi, Zeliangrong Youth Front and Zeliangrong Students’ Union have condemned the June 17 incident at Pongringlong (Charoipandongba) under Kangpokpi district in Manipur, where five vehicles, houses and properties worth lakh of rupees were burnt down.

A press release stated that the district magistrates of Kangpokpi and Longmei (Noney) imposed Section 144 CrPC a day before the incident sensing violence following the circular issued allegedly by JAC informing the surrounding villages to depute youths and gather at Tupul bazar.

The organisations have termed the order ‘decorative part and a farce’ as the incident occurred in presence of the security forces and with the knowledge of the government. It stated that the incident could have been averted had the government took appropriate action in accordance with the prohibitory orders.

Stating that ‘the degree of crime perpetrated upon the citizens is intolerable and unacceptable both in customary practices and in legal purview,’ the organisations urged the government not to shirk away its responsibilities in taking befitting action against the perpetrators as per law of the land so that such violent acts does not recur in future.
