Women trained in value-addition of horti. crops

Dimapur, Sep. 18 (EMN): One day training on cultivation of oyster mushroom and value addition of horticulture crops was organised by Crusaders Club under the Youth Ministry of the Medziphema Ao Baptist Church on Sep. 16, to empower women of the church.
The training was sponsored by Central Institute of Horticulture, Medziphema with Sarila and Bendangla from Orchid Self Help Group (SHG) a successful SHG in the enterprise of bamboo shoot pickle and other value added products from Dimapur, Dr. Sentirenla, Asst. Prof. B.Voc Tzubentula Jamir, SASRD, and Imtinaro from CIH, Medziphema as the resource persons informed a press note.
The topics for the training were demonstration on preparation of king chilli pickle with bamboo shoot, cultivation of oyster mushroom, preparation of pineapple jam and squash.
The main objective of the training was to train the women on self sustenance and o let them earn extra income for their family and to attain nutritional security of the family.
Medziphema being a hub for pineapple cultivation and an abundant natural availability of bamboo shoot, the participants were taught on how to preserve these items when it is abundantly available and use it during off season without wasting any produce, stated the press note.
All together, 45 participants attended the training who also shared their desire to start practicing whatever they have learned during the training, it stated.
