Kohima, Sep. 18 (EMN): Vanguard FC, Naga Terriers, defending champions Naga FC and Green Club won their respective quarterfinal matches on Monday to advance to the round of last four at the ongoing 3rd Captain Kenguruse Memorial Football Tournament.
As many as 23 goals were scored by the four winning teams who had an easy passage into the semi-finals scheduled tomorrow. Their opponents including Friends United FC, Medziphema United, Tizit Tornadoes and Laimcishm FC, who failed to deliver a single goal, were all on the receiving end during their respective quarterfinal matches.
Playing the first match at Kohima local ground, Vanguard FC blanked Friends United FC 9-0 to advance to the semis. Vanguard will next play against Green Club in the 2nd semi-final tomorrow at 1 pm. Yhunshalo Kemp was the star of the match as he led from the front by scoring four goals.
Vanguard drew the first blood through Nythong Magh in the 12th minute, while Yhunshalo scored the second in the 21st minute, followed by the third in the 36th minute. One minute later, Yhunshalo went on to score his hat-trick goal in the 36th minute to make it 4-0.
Adding misery to Friends United FC, Sinlo Kent netted the fifth goal in the 41st minute, while Yhunshalo scored his fourth and the team’s sixth goal in the 58th minute.
The seventh goal came through the boots of Awangbou Kaurinta in the 68th minute, followed by the 8th goal through Sisenti Kath in the 71st minute. It was nightmarish for Friends United as Awangbou again got passed the keeper few minutes before the final whistle to end the match 9-0.
Naga Terriers also entered the semifinal with their victory against Medziphema United 3-0 played at Tsiese Basa ground.
Naga Terriers took an early lead through T. Khampal in the 3rd minute to end the first half 1-0. Moving into the second half, Naga Terriers took control of the match when Chubatemjen scored the second goal in the 52nd minute.
Medziphema United fought back, but their hope to stay in the game was dampened when Khampal netted the third goal for Naga Terriers in the 78th minute.
The defending champions Naga FC also registered their entry into the round of last four with their convincing victory against Tizit Tornadoes 4-0.
Khwetelhi Thopi gave Naga FC an early lead in the 3rd minute. The first belonged to Naga FC who went on to score two more gaols through Aloumei Panmei in the 11th minute and Rhitso Mero in the 39th minute.
Trailing three goals behind, a rejuvenated Tizit Tornadoes fought back in the second half but were outclassed by the two times champions on all fronts. To make it worse for the team from Mon, Khwetelhi Thopi went on to score his second and the team’s fourth goal minutes before the final whistle.
The last quarterfinal was also a one-sided match as Green Club thrashed Laimcishm FC 7-0 at Tsiese Basa ground.
Kimiyeto drew the first blood for Green Club in the 3rd minute, followed by the second through Puloto in the 25th minute. Two minutes later, Kimiyeto was again on target in the 27th minute to end the first half 3-0.
After the interval, Shiyeto put Green Club in a secured position by scoring the fourth goal in the 62nd minute. By the 64th minute, it was all over for Laimcishm FC when Vito scored the fifth goal, followed by Shiyeto with the sixth goal in the 67th minute.
Three minutes later, it was celebration time again for Shiyeto who scored his hat-trick goal in the 71st minute to end the match 7-0.
