Winter vegetable seeds distributed in Manipur

IMPHAL — Manipur’s Works Minister, Govindas Konthoujam, today distributed winter vegetable seeds such as onion, garden pea, cabbage, broccoli, knol-khol, cauliflower and tomato to selected beneficiaries of four districts namely Imphal East, Imphal West,Thoubal and Bishnupur. 

The seeds distribution programme was held under the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture of the Horticulture and Soil Conservation department at the chief minister’s secretariat in Imphal. 

Speaking on the occasion, Govindas has stressed the need to continue taking up economic activities which are essential for the progress and development of the state. On the state’s soil potential which gives different taste to every product grown in it, he said it is a gift of God. As the soil potential is not harnessed optimally, he urged the farmers to give priority on agro-based and horticulture products to develop the state’s economy. 

Mentioning on the soil degradation caused by poppy plantation, he spoke on the initiatives of the state government under the guidance of Chief Minister, N Biren Singh, in providing alternative plantation crops for sustainable livelihood to poppy cultivators.

Stating that vegetable seeds provided by the government are of good quality, he urged the beneficiaries to cultivate the distributed seeds properly.

Chairman of Manipur Electronics Development Corporation, S Kunjakeswor; chairman of Manipur Handloom and Handicraft Development Corporation, Kh Ibomcha; chairman of Planning and Development Authority, L Rameshwor; chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board, Dr. U Deben; MLA of Wangoi, Kh Loken; commissioner of Horticulture and Soil Conservation, T Pamei; senior officials of Horticulture and Soil Conservation department and beneficiaries attended the programme.
