Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): Western Chakhesang Youth Organisation (WCYO) organised a leadership seminar on November 12 at Western Chakhesang Baptist Church Council Mission Centre (WCBCCMC) on the theme “Leadership and resilience for the youth in a globalised and competitive world.”

Gracing the occasion as resource person, Kekhwengulo Lea, vice chairman of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank Ltd and former president of Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), quoted Socrates’ philosophy by saying, “Know thyself” if you want to become a leader.

Speaking on the history of Chakhesangs, he stated that the head of the village was known as Thuvo/ Mewo. To become Thuvo/ Mewo, he said one must work hard and earn the respect of the villagers to run the administration for the welfare of the villagers, an update from WCYO stated.

Lea stated that during the tenure of former chief minister of Nagaland, Late Vamuzo’s term, he along with the then deputy commissioner of Phek, Late AM Gokhale introduced the Village Development Board (VDB) in Phek district which became the centre of village development activities in Nagaland today.

“When Sir Charles Ridley Pawsey, district commissioner of Naga Hills, visited the present Phek district, he saw that people were not dependent and said these areas are still backward but economically stable,” Lea said.

The speaker highlighted the history of leaders who stood firm despite the grim situation to form the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO), Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) and so on. Taking the examples of the past and present Chakhesang leaders, he challenged the youth to follow their leaders’ footprints and stand up for the future generations.

He said, “In the present-day, youth are not future leaders but in this century the youth are the leaders of present generation.”

The meeting was chaired by Surhota Yhobu, WCYO general secretary, while an invocation was said by Pokho Cükhamu, WCYO social and cultural secretary, and the welcome address was delivered by Likalo Letro, WCYO president.

Pretso Therie, joint secretary of Western Chakhesang Hoho, also delivered short speech on behalf of the hoho
