DIMAPUR — In an effort to revitalise the economy of villages along the Indo-Myanmar border, a total of 29 small tea growers collectively known as ‘Small Tea Growers of Chen Nagaland’ have embarked on a mission to train local villagers in tea cultivation.

As part of the mission, the volunteers have conducted trainings covering 15 villages in Mon district beginning on September 16 and concluded on October 2. The mission was coordinated by Seemanta Cetana Mancha Purvottar (SCMP) also known as International Border Awareness Forum of Northeast (IBAFNE).

“What’s even more remarkable is that the 29 volunteers have taken it upon themselves to cover the expenses of this training initiative, demonstrating their commitment to the cause,” stated a SCMP press release issued by its general secretary, Shomwang Wangnao.

It stated added that the endeavours of 29 small tea growers have impacted over 1,480 tea growers and potential tea farmers in the region. The objective of the 29 volunteers was to enhance the economic prospects of villages along the Indo-Myanmar border by promoting tea cultivation and tea-related products.

It added that SCMP has played a pivotal role in assisting those volunteers in networking with the central government of India by ensuring that their efforts are well-supported and sustainable.

Report stated that the “Smaller Tea Growers of Chen Nagaland” has set an ambitious goal to establish thousands of tea farms within one year with the hope of fostering economic growth and self-sufficiency in the border region.

It further stated that the initiative has served as a shining example of grassroots efforts to empower communities and boost local economies.
