DIPHU — In a major development in Karbi Anglong, two regional forces, All Party Hills Leaders Conference (APHLC) and Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) have resolved to work together to safeguard the land and the people of indigenous communities of Assam and to jointly fight together at the forthcoming Parliamentary election in 2024.

This decision was taken between the two parties in a meeting held at Hotel Hempi  in Diphu on Monday. The two parties have also agreed to fight together to root out corruption in Karbi Anglong.

Informing this to media persons in a press conference after the meeting, the APHLC president, J I Kathar said that the two parties will fight together in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections while informing that any other regional parties are welcomed to join the group.

The AJP president, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that, an agreement has come that both APHLC and AJP will be working together to safeguard the language, culture and customs and land of indigenous communities. The two parties have come together in order to strengthen regionalism in Assam.

Mention can be made that AJP was formed by two student organisations of Assam viz. All Assam Students Union (AASU) and Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) in September 2020. The former general secretary, AASU, Lurinjyoti Gogoi is the president.
