Dimapur, July 28 (EMN):
Two persons stranded in Chathe River, Chümoukedima, were rescued by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel on July 27 evening.

District Commandant Home Guards, Civil Defense and SDRF Dimapur, Y Khenito Chishi  informed Eastern Mirror that the two men aged around 17 and 22, residing at 4th Mile, went fishing in Chathe River when they were ‘stuck in the middle of the river and could not move’.

The water current was strong, so the residents in nearby area and volunteers could not rescue them.

The OC EAC Chümoukedima informed the officer, who then sent the SDRF personnel to the river at around 6:30 pm, and “with the help of police and volunteers, the two individuals were rescued”.

Chishi said that the SDRF personnel rescued the duo, including a teenager, using a lifeboat. The rescue team helped them put on lifejackets before bringing them to safety.

He further informed that the OC took them for medical check-up and both were said to be stable.

EAC Chümoukedima also expressed his gratitude to the district commandant HG & CD and his team for their prompt response in rescuing the two individuals from Chathe River.

‘In a very challenging rescue operation; the two persons stuck in the middle of the river were brought to safety by the SDRF personnel despite the strong currents,’ he added.
