Tsumang FC defend LSU martyr’s football championship title

WOKHA — The 23rd LSU martyr’s football tournament concluded on Wednesday at Local Ground Wokha, with the defending champions Tsumang FC retaining the championship once again.

Tsumang FC defeated Sumo XI 3-1 in the final to lift the trophy again.

The champions received a cash prize of INR 60,000, while the runners-up were awarded with INR 30,000. Individual prize winners were: Highest scorer – Mhonthung Ngullie from Tsumang FC, best goal keeper-  Lijan from New Colony Youth Organisation Wokha Town, best defender- Nchumthung Kikon of Sumo XI, best midfielder- Zaren Ngullie of Tsumang FC, youngest emerging player- Rendemo Shitiri (17 years) of New Colony Youth Organisation Wokha Town, and player of the tournament- Yiben Ezung from Tsumang FC.

The occasion also witnessed a friendly match played between the LSU officials and Deputy Commissioner XI, wherein the former won in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the tournament, Yanrenthung Humtsoe, president of Wokha District Sports Association (WDSA), lauded the organisers of the annual event for providing young people a platform to showcase their talent.

Citing the theme of the sporting event, “Whistle against drugs”, he advised the youths not to indulge in substance abuse, saying that drugs not only destroys an individual but also the family, neighbours and the society as a whole.

He added that achievements in various fields bring laurels to a community while drug addiction brings shame.
