DIMAPUR — The Tseminyu district level tournament for Government High Schools and Government Higher Secondary School was held on March 7 and 8 at Rengma Sports Association ground, with Deputy Commissioner of Tseminyu, Rohit Singh as the special guest.
The special guest, in his address, motivated the students to take the tournament as a “stepping stone and motivating factors for showcasing their skills and talents,” a DIPR report stated
Singh remarked that education being an all-round development, it is fitting that students have fun activities after exams and know how to maintain balance.
Terming sports as part of life, he impressed the students to “develop skills of life” along with a spirit of cooperation, teamwork, resilience, discipline and sportsmanship.
The tournament witnessed participation from six GHS and one GHSS competing in eight disciplines – badminton, 100-metre race, 200-metre race, 800-metre race, 1500-metre race, long jump, shot put and javelin throw, for both boys and girls.
GHSS Tseminyu emerged as the overall champions, GHS Tesophenyu clinched the first runners-up and GHS Kandinu the second runners-up position.
The first position holders in each category will be representing the district for the inter-district tournament slated to be held on March 14 and the 15th in Kohima.
