Transport comm. orders compliance with court’s license directive

Dimapur, May 23 (EMN): Nagaland’s transport establishment has ordered implementation of the Supreme Court’s judgment to obtain transport licences in case of medium or heavy vehicles, goods or passengers vehicles, of certain weight.
The establishment of the state’s Transport Commissioner issued to the media on Thursday a copy of the notice stating the directive.

The notice was addressed the regional and district transport establishments in Nagaland. The government has ordered strict compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.

The Transport Commissioner stated to have received a letter from the ministry of Road Transport & Highways directing all the states in the country to comply with the directive of the Supreme Court on stated matter.

‘The legal position of the Supreme Court on the matter is very clearly spelled out through its judgment to obtain the transport licence in case of any medium/heavy goods and passengers vehicles the gross vehicle weight of which exceeds 7500 kilograms only,’ the notice stated.

“No other vehicle will require any separate endorsement even if it is used for commercial purpose.”
Exemption from the requirements to obtain the endorsement for commercial vehicles will apply to motorcycles without gear, motorcycles with gear; light motor vehicles (goods carrier, passenger vehicles; e-rickshaws and e-carts, the notice stated.

‘Therefore, in compliance with the directive of the ministry of Road Transport & Highways vis-a-vis the judgement of the honourable Supreme Court, all licensing authorities and enforcement authorities in the state are hereby informed to take cognizance of the same and act accordingly in discharge of duties on such matters,’ the order added.
