New traffic rules ban heavy vehicles in town center

Heavy vehicles have been banned from entering the central commercial areas of Dimapur until evening. As a part of the ongoing enforcement initiatives that the Dimapur police authorities are undertaking, the Traffic establishment has issued a new set of regulations specifically for heavy vehicles and carriers.
Under the new set of traffic rules, heavy vehicles from New Field Check Gate, Dellai Check Gate and Khatkhati check gate are banned from entering the city limits from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Besides, the authorities have banned loading and unloading of goods by mini/medium/ heavy vehicles within the city limits during the restricted hours.
The Dimapur police issued a press release on Friday, July 17, informing about the new regulations. In continuation to the police’s previous set of rules, the Dimapur police has reminded all in concern of the new traffic regulations to be introduced with effect from July 20. “This is introduced with a view to ease congestion of vehicle movement within the city limits of Dimapur,” the authorities informed.
The police said that the regulations were made in exercise of authority vested upon the district police by the government of Nagaland in an empowerment in September 2001.
“The notification authorizes the superintendent of police of the district to be the competent authority to determine places at which use of motor vehicles shall be restricted, erect traffic signs, allow parking and halting of motor vehicles, including public service vehicles,” the police stated.

The following new rules have been introduced
• Entry of heavy vehicles into the city limits will be restricted from New Field Check Gate, Dellai Check Gate and Khatkhati check gate from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
• Heavy vehicles plying from Chumukedima and Purana Bazar are banned from crossing New Dhansiri Bridge, Nagarjan Bridge, and Rangapahar Crossing Bridge into the city limits during the restricted hours.
• Loading and unloading of goods by mini/medium/ heavy vehicles within the city limits have been banned during the restricted hours.
• Passenger vehicles, army, and CPMF convoys, and government vehicles are exempted from the restrictions.
