Thoidambo of KROS College wins best soloist award

Dimapur, Feb 21: Thoidambo Nring of KROS College was declared winner in the solo category of the Inter-Collegiate Gospel Beat Contest 2017, while Ms Nyumei Ong of Sazolie College and Menoseii Mary Sorhie of Don Bosco College declared second and third winners respectively. The Inter-Collegiate Gospel Beat Contest was held at KROS College on February 20 and 21 on the theme ‘Punctuate it with Hallelujah.’
NU SASRD and Don Bosco College secured first and second position respectively in the quartet category, while St. Joseph’s College and NU SASRD were adjudged as the first and second winners in the band category.
The beat contest was organised with the objective to bring all colleges under Nagaland University within Kohima and Dimapur to come closer and foster better Christian relationship among colleges while imparting education in its spirit. The two-day event witnessed competitions in various categories i.e., solo, quartet and band.In the individual category, Vallery D Kharmawlong from NU SASRD was declared best vocalist, while Jeffry from NU SASRD was declared best guitarist, Ajang from St. Joseph’s College, Kohima, won the best drummer award and Anguka Achumi from NU SASRD won the best bassist award.
Gugs Chishi, Project Director of Music Task Force Department of Youth Resources and Sports, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Local artiste Alobo Naga graced the closing ceremony as guest of honour.
Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NStCB) Ltd, UCO Bank, Federal Bank, Higher Education Department, Government of Nagaland, Bazari Steel Pvt Ltd, Dimapur and Ms Bombay Dyeing, Dimapur, sponsored the Inter-Collegiate Gospel Beat Contest 2017
The judges were Mele Pucho, Director of Symphony Academy of Music/Symphony School of Music Kohima; Bendang Kichu, drummer of Divine Connection; and Kosapong, musician, guitar teacher, Symphony Academy of Music.
Altogether 14 colleges participated in beat contest.
