Strong winds damage houses in Imphal

Imphal, April 30 (EMN): Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds damaged several houses and uprooted trees and electric poles in Manipur particularly in Imphal areas on Sunday midnight. However there was no report of any human casualty.
Many roofs of houses under Singjamei, Keishamthong and Thongju constituencies all under greater Imphal areas, were badly affected. Even a minor boy was reportedly hurt at Kongba Road in Imphal east district. A big banyan tree was also uprooted causing inconveniences to the commuters in Imphal East district while a number of electric poles were damaged in Singjamei area in Imphal West district. Employees of the state electricity department are working hard to restore the electric poles and the wires till the filing of this report. T
here are also reports of damaged houses and other structures during last night’s heavy storm. However the loss due to the storm is yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile the state health minister Langpoklakpam Jayentakumar Singh who represents Keishamthong constituency in Imphal assured necessary help from the government. Manipur is witnessing massive hailstorms and incessant rains every year in between the last week of April and first week of May since the last 5/6 years.
