State’s weekly Covid positivity rate declines

Dimapur, Oct. 30 (EMN): Nagaland’s weekly Covid-19 positivity rate has declined marginally to 2.8% in the past ending October 29, compared to 3.2% in the previous week.

As many as 122 Covid positive cases and six deaths – two each in Dimapur and Mokokchung, and one in Zunheboto – were reported in the state in the past week as against 142 cases and four fatalities in the week before.

“The weekly sample positivity rate has remained less than 5% for the last 11 weeks. All districts reported weekly positivity rate of less than 5% except Wokha (6.6%),” read the weekly bulletin from the state’s Health department.

The weekly new hospitalisation against the total confirmed cases was 22 (11 from Dimapur) as against 32 in the previous week, it stated.

The update informed that the most affected age group in 2020 is 31-40 years at 34% (4060/11927), while the 21-30 years age group accounts for 26% (5143/19742) cases in 2021.

It added that majority of the cases in 2020 were males at 78% (9292/11927) compared to 22% female, while males account for 59% (11584/19742) of positive cases as against 41% female in 2021.

11.99 lakh vaccine doses administered

The Health department stressed on the importance of vaccination, saying that it highly effective against severe disease and deaths due to the Covid-19. It added that deaths are being observed disproportionately among the “unvaccinated.

While informing that 76,080 persons are overdue for second dose of Covid-19 vaccine in Nagaland, the department said that taking both doses is essential for maximum protection.

It informed that 11,99,869 (11.99 lakh) doses of Covid vaccine have been administered across the state so far, with 57% (7,10,368) of eligible adult population having received at least one dose (target is based on census) and 40% (4,89,501) second dose.

Out of the total doses administered, 28,912 were in the last seven days.

222 active cases

Nagaland recorded a single-day rise of 20 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, taking the tally to 31,831 and active caseload to 222.

The state’s cumulative recoveries have rose to 29,883 following recuperation of 19 more patients in the last 24 hours, while the death toll remained unchanged at 669 as no fatalities were reported.

According to an update from the department of Health and Family Welfare, eight positive cases were reported in Dimapur, five in Mokokchung, three in Kohima, two in Kiphire and one each in Phek and Wokha on Saturday.

Nagaland currently has 222 active Covid-19 cases, out of which 176 are asymptomatic, 32 mild, five moderate on oxygen, six severe on oxygen and three in ICU on ventilator.

In regard to district-wise distribution of Covid-19 cases, Dimapur has the highest number with 116, followed by Kohima with 41, 31 in Mokokchung, 10 in Wokha, eight in Tuensang, six in Phek, four in Mon, two each in Peren and Kiphire, and one each in Longleng and Zunheboto.

India logs 14313 new cases

Meanwhile, India recorded 14,313 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 3,42,60,470 and active caseload to 1,61,555, according to data provided by the Union Health ministry.

The death toll climbed to 4,57,740 with 549 more fatalities, while the cumulative recoveries increased to 3,36,41,175 (98.19% recovery rate) following recuperation of 13,543 more patients in the last 24 hours.

The weekly positivity rate stands at 1.18% and daily positivity rate at 1.22%, according to the update. Active cases account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.47%; lowest since March 2020, it added.

 The Union Health ministry also stated the total Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 106 crore, including 73,13,04,773 first dose and 32,94,35,093 second dose on Saturday.

The informed that 61,99,429 (nearly 62 lakh) doses were administered on Saturday till 7 pm. The daily vaccination tally is expected to increase with the compilation of the final reports for the day by late tonight, it added.
