State pays tribute to mothers

MARY Help of Christian Cathedral, Kohima, celebrated Mother’s Day on May 8 where Rev. Fr. Carolus Neisalhou, Vicar General of the Diocese of Kohima, was the main celebrant. Fr. George Rino, Fr. Johny, Fr. Thomas concelebrated and solemnized the Holy Eucharist.
Neisalhou, in his tribute, said mothers are the sweetest gift from God adding Mother’s Day is the best time to convey love and care for the sacrifices they had made in raising.
Fr. Thomas Toretkiu said God’s love is powerful adding the same love could be tangibly experienced from our mothers. He urged the mothers to keep deeper relationship with God, saying God uses His love through a mother to accomplish the things He delights.
Asavi Christina, mothers’ representative, said our lives would be meaningless and not worth if we fail to love and to live for each other. She said celebration of Mother’s Day is an opportunity to re-affirm the love and care for each other. She concluded with a prayer so that the bonds of unity might grow ever stronger as they continue to serve the Lord by serving each other.
Special songs were presented by Sunday catechism children, Holy Childhood members and duet by Ms Josephine and a boy. Ms Abigail Kaje presented a tribute to mothers. Special gifts were also presented to 450 mothers by the parishioners. The Holy Eucharist was attended by 3000 faithful. The special prayer for mothers was said by a student, VJ Vijayanand.
In a related prgramme, NPF Minority Wing observed the International Mother’s Day at Tribal Old Age Care Centre at Industrial village Razhuphe, Dimapur, on May 8.
On the occasion, aged mothers were felicitated with gift and food items by NPF Minority Wing and other guests.
Speaking on the occasion, president of NPF Minority Wing, Bishnu Bhattacharjee, said the programme was initiated as a good will gesture to reach out to humanity to bring fullness of life with peace and harmony in society.
Large number of aged mothers attended the occasion. Others who attended the programme were Rajesh Sethi, Sanjay Dey- vice president, Kanailal Das and Dilip Keshari from Minority Wing along with secretary of NPF Central Lipok Pongen.
Minority wing members also visited Old Age Home and Orphanage as a part of the programme.
In yet another programme, St. Francis Xavier’s Catholic Church, Kidima, observed Mothers’ Day on the theme “Grace be with all of you” (Hebrews 13:25) along with the rest of the world with Rev. Fr. Thomas Muttathil, Parish Priest, as the main speaker. On the occasion, the Parish Priest made special prayer for the mothers.
Fr. Thomas Muttathil also called upon to mothers to continue to pray for their children in order to receive blessings from God.
Special numbers were presented by Kidima Catholic Youth Association and mothers followed by felicitation. Franciscan Sisters of Saint Mary of the Angels (FSMA) also joined the sacred feast of the liturgy programme.
