The last rites for Late Naik Mongchon, who lost his life on July 22 at the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir, were performed on July 26 with full military honors at this native Anyakshu village, in Noklak sub-division.
Villagers, relatives, troops and officers of the Assam Rifles paid last tributes to the martyr. People of Noklak, subdivision turned up in large numbers for a last glimpse of their national hero during the ceremony at Anyakshu.
The mortal remains of the martyr reached Dimapur airport. A special Army convoy brought the slain soldier to his native village where moist eyes awaited their brave hero, the army said in a press release received here on Tuesday.
Full military honors were given by guards from the 23rd Assam Rifles. Wreaths on behalf of the General Officer Commanding of 3 Corps, Director General Assam Rifles, Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), and the Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles were laid in honor of the martyr.
