Seminar on HIV/AIDS, Swacch Bharat at Zhavame

‘Spreading rate of HIV/AIDS in Phek district very high’
Dimapur, Dec. 21: Zhavame Students’ Union (ZSU) and Zhavame Youth Society (ZYS) in collaboration with the Development Association Nagaland (DAN), organised seminar on HIV/AIDS and Swacch Bharat cum sanitation drive on December 21 at Zhavame village with participants of 309 youths and 13 village leaders.
Addressing the gathering, Sukho Movi, special ambassador to Swachh Bharat Mission, Phek, reminded the youths to fear the Lord in all that they do. He said “truth and hard work triumphs”. Elaborating the statement with his life testimony on how he was appointed as the special ambassador, he added that success never comes with a bed of roses.
He also briefed the participants of government’s objective on Swachh Bharat Mission to celebrate the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi with Clean India by 2019.
Zhavame Village Council chairman, Vivotso Domeh while exhorting the gathering, appreciated the initiative of ZSU and ZYS for the noble mission and encouraged the youth and students to continue the task. He also reminded them that sanitation in a particular place can be obtained only through collective effort and not few individuals. Further, he thanked the state governor B.P. Acharya for appointing Sukho Movi as special ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission, Phek.
Speaker for the seminar, Ngapunyi Krocha emphasizing on HIV/AIDS, stated that Nagaland is one of the smallest states in term of area and population in India, but is topping in HIV/AIDS. He said the spreading rate of HIV/AIDS in Phek district is very high and with the current trend Phek District may even move to top position if measures were not taken. He also informed that more than 50% of HIV/AIDS patients belong to the age group of 15-25 years.
After the seminar, a massive cleanliness drive was carried out by the youths.
It may be mentioned that, ZSU and ZYS has been organizing several sanitation drives with a goal to keep Zhavame village clean and make it a Plastic Free Zone.
