Dimapur, Feb. 15 (EMN):
The deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Rajesh Soundararajan, on Monday inaugurated the Special Handloom Expo, Sekrenyi, North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) at Urban Haat in Dimapur on February 15. The handloom expo is being organised by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce, government of Nagaland and sponsored by development commissioner for handlooms, Ministry of Textiles.

During the inauguration programme, general manager of Directorate of Industries and Commerce, Dimapur, P Tokugha Achumi said that as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Textiles, 30 stalls have been put up.

Achumi added that special Handloom Expo, Sekrenyi is for a period of 14 days with the objective to help the weavers  show case their product and also to help them generate revenue.

Achumi said that unlike other years, only Assam would be participating in the expo this year as other states couldn’t participate ‘due to various reason and Covid issues as well’.

The general manager said that main objective is to let the weavers earn revenue adding that ‘the quality of the product is much better since most of the handloom products were hand woven’.

“Therefore the price of the product might be little different from what is available in other shops and the price would vary depending on the products,’ he said.

Achumi also informed that each stall owner would be given some money as stipend through the Development Commissioner for Handlooms.

The special handloom expo will conclude on February 28.
