Temjen Imna Along after inaugurating the public utility facility initiated by Red Shield Division of the Indian army in Kisama on December 1.

DIMAPUR — Red Shield Division of the Indian army has set up an army morung in Kisama showcasing the rich culture and heritage of the Naga people and their contributions towards the nation building. Besides, the army has established a public utility and beautification projects.

A defence release stated that the army morung was set up to pay rich tribute to the valiant soldiers and outstanding sportspersons of Nagaland, in coordination with the department of Tourism, Government of Nagaland.

The army morung was inaugurated by Reeta Sahi, zonal president of Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA), on December 1. It has a dedicated corner made in memory of Captain N Kengruse, MVC (posthumous), who attained martyrdom during Op Vijay in 1999. The morung also highlights the contribution and accomplishments of the sportspersons of Nagaland.

It stated that the Red Shield Division of the Spear Corps has facilitated a musical fountain at the Heritage Village providing further colour and festive ambience to the venue of the mega festival alongwith an army band playing traditional martial tunes.

Besides, it has set up drinking water facility and public toilet to cater basic needs of a large number of visitors. The projects were inaugurated by Temjen Imna Along, minister of Tourism.

It stated that Maj. Gen. Sumit Kabthiyal, GOC, Red Shield Division, handed over the projects to the festival authorities during the opening ceremony.

It informed that the army morung would be opened to visitors for the entire duration of the Hornbill Festival.

It also informed that the family members of Captain N Kengruse would be felicitated in a special ceremony on December 7.
