Relief distribution in Kohima
Beneficiaries avail food items during the second phase ration relief distribution at Daklane sector 3 in Kohima, on April 18.

Kohima, Apr 18 (EMN): With the extension of nationwide lockdown till May 3 to contain the spread of Covid 19 pandemic, Kohima district administration has started issuing second phase of ration relief to various wards and colonies.

District administration, in collaboration with Daklane ward sector 1 and 3, distributed essential commodities like rice, dal and salt to daily wage earners and students living in the ward on April 18. It was informed that distribution in sector 2 would be carried out on April 19.

President of Daklane Youth Organisation Leanne Kiewhuo informed Eastern Mirror that 260 beneficiaries from sector were provided relief items in the second phase. She informed that needy people were identified by visiting door-to-door and also by meeting the house owners. She added that the administration had provided 37 bags of rice and 2 bags of dal. According to her, most of the beneficiaries were from outside the state.

The first phase of ration relief was distributed to 176 beneficiaries on April 1. The administration provided 35 bags of rice, two bags of dal and one bag of salt in the first phase.

Sector president and panchayat vice chairman of Daklane sector 1, Akhavi Tsuipu informed this reporter that in the second phase, there were 598 beneficiaries from the sector including stranded students and daily wage earners. The sector received 90 bags of rice, five bags of dal and two bags of salt from the administration out of which 8 kg of rice was distributed to each household.

“Dal and salt are given on first come first serve basis as there is no enough (stock) for everyone,” he stated. He also informed that they identified the needy people by visiting house-to-house.

He shared that 532 beneficiaries were provided rice and dal in the first phase from 82 bags of rice and 2 bags of dal received from the administration. He added that food items were distributed accordingly to the number of family members in a household.

President of Daklane sector 2 Vikiho Shohe informed that they would be distributing relief items in the second phase on April 19. He informed that there were 243 beneficiaries in the list, adding they have received 33 bags of rice, 2 bags of dal and a bag of salt. He stated that dal and salt would be given only to the people who needed them most as there is not enough stock for everyone. In the first phase, 224 beneficiaries were provided relief from 43 bags of rice, two bags of dal and a bag of salt provided by the administration, he said.
