Scrutiny of nomination papers for Lok Sabha election in Nagaland completed
DIMAPUR — The scrutiny process of nominations received for Nagaland’s lone parliamentary seat to the 18th Lok Sabha was completed on Thursday with three candidates in the poll contest.
The candidates can withdraw their nominations till March 30.
The scrutiny of nomination papers filed by the candidates was carried out by Commissioner Nagaland and Returning Officer, Sushil Kumar Patel, in the presence of general observers P Ramesh and Avinash Champawat.
According to an update, the candidates whose nomination papers were found to be in order and accepted as per the electoral guidelines and eligibility criteria issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI), are Dr. Chumben Murry from National Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), S Supongmeren Jamir from the Indian National Congress and Hayithung Tungoe Lotha, an Independent candidate.
The candidates witnessed the scrutiny proceedings, further bolstering transparency and accountability for a free, fair and transparent electoral process, it said.
Meanwhile, the nomination paper of the Congress’ substitute candidate was rejected as the main candidate’s nomination papers were found in order, the update stated.
Nagaland will go to polls on April 19 before the votes are counted on June 4.
