Dimapur, March 16 (EMN): A scientific training on Apis cerana and stingless bees for the beekeepers of Beisumpuikam village in Peren district was held on March 15. The training programme was organised by All India Coordinated Research Project on Honey bees and Pollinators under the department Entomology, SASRD, NU, Medziphema.
An update from SASRD stated that the training included practical handling and management techniques. It added that the follow-up sessions would be held on March 18 and 21. The training was sponsored under the NEH component by AICRP on honey bees and pollinators, ICAR, New Delhi.
Dr. Avinash Chauhan, scientist and training coordinator, and Ngukho, bee professional, both from AICRP (HB&P), department of Entomology, SASRD, NU, Medziphema, elaborated on the topics of stingless bees and its important role as pollinators, honey quality, scientific management of Apis cerana and stingless bees, scientific bee boxes and implements, etc.
Altogether, 66 beekeepers and farmers participated in the training along with NAFED staff. It said that scientific bee boxes were also distributed to all participants.
The inaugural function was chaired by Dr. Avinash Chauhan, while pastor of Beisumpuikam village Baptist Church has invoked God’s blessings and Tadibe Zeliang, chairman of BVC, delivered the vote of thanks.
