Mokokchung, March 16 (EMN):
Minister of PWD (Mechanical and Housing), Tongpang Ozukum, on Wednesday asserted that it was high time to introduce Commerce stream at Fazl Ali College (FAC) and urged the apex bodies and Ao legislators to work towards introduction of the same.

“The New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 advocates opening multi-disciplinary institutions/ colleges,” he asserted. The minister was in Mokokchung to inaugurate a Language Translation Centre (LTC) sponsored by Jemtimenba Mollier, the chief Patron of ASLB, along with other innovative facilities in FAC.

The other components were a biotech lab, childcare centre, library browsing center and resource outlet, and a mini soil testing laboratory.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Ozukum lauded various village councils, groups, individuals and the department for their contribution to the college. He stated that the practical innovative initiation would contribute immensely during the NAAC peer team visit and added that it would help to elevate quality education.

He has stressed on the importance of translation to bridge between cultures.

“Along with the changing world, our ethos which needs to change must be changed and retain the ethos important to us. These help a society to catch up with the rest of the world,” he asserted.

He added that LTC was not only about translation of language but would contribute in introducing Ao language at Honours degree in the future. In this regard, he urged the gathering not to dwell on past glories but to move forward along with the rest of the world to make the vision of LTC into reality.

Dr.  Lanurenla, director of LTC while introducing the concept of the centre, asserted that Ao language is in a vulnerable stage as per UNESCO and cautioned that ‘we are likely to enter the endangered stage.’ She added that the objective of LTC was for translating other languages into Ao.

She added that translation helps in connecting nations and fostering peace, understanding and development and strengthening of world peace. She further asserted that artificial intelligence (AI) would never replace human translation but AI would continue to work together because the human element would never be fully replaced.

LTC future plans included internship on translation, collaboration, certification course on translation, more publication by all disciplines in the college, and a platform for other Naga languages.
