Dimapur, Aug. 21 (EMN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti), Medziphema, organised a two-day online training programme on “Doubling farmers income: market led agricultural extension” for ATMA functionaries on August 20 and the 21st.
The training programme was aimed at working towards ‘Vision 2022’- doubling farmers’ income through market led agricultural extension and educating them to help farmers to have better access to markets.
According to an update, Sameti director and principal of IETC in-charge, Dr. Watimongla Jamir, spoken on the importance of doubling farmer’s income. She reminded that majority of the farmers are still suffering from traditional marketing problems such as lack of adequate scientific storage facilities, grading and processing facilities, transportation facilities and marketing information services.
As extension functionaries, she encouraged the participants to assist the farmers in solving problems faced in marketing of their produce.
Resource persons for the training were PC Roy, retired senior zonal manager (Marketing) and in-charge of NERAMAC, GOI; and Vikaho Chophi, deputy project director of Sameti, Medziphema.
It stated that topics on farmers double income generations: marketing strategic plan; MOVCD or Atma – Nirbhar Krishi (self-reliant); market led agricultural extension and linking farmers to markets were covered during the programme.
e-certificates were also given to all the participants.
