DIMAPUR — Elaborating the role of pastors as a lifelong calling and not just a career or salary-driven occupation, senior pastor of Koinonia Baptist Church (KBC) and principal of Kohima Bible College, Rev. Zotuo Kiewhuo, said pastors should have the qualities of being blameless, sober-minded, non-violent and not greed for money.

Rev. Kiewhuo stated this in his message during ‘Pastors’ Appreciation Day’ programme at Kohima Lotha Baptist Church (KLBC) on Sunday, which was organised in recognition of the dedication and high calling of its pastors on the theme “Pastors: A high calling” (1 Timothy 3:1-7). He emphasised the divine nature of pastoral ministry and the importance of not forgetting one’s vows to God.

Rev. Kiewhuo, who was the speaker of the programme, highlighted the tendency of people to forget the goodness of God by drawing a parallel with the story of Jacob from the Bible, who was reminded of his vow at Bethel and to return there (Genesis 31:13 and 35:1). He stressed the need to remember one’s vows and stay committed to God, stated a press release issued by Koinonia Baptist Church media ministry.

While acknowledging that pastors, like all individuals, have flaws, he stated that they should be opened to learning and not be swayed by false doctrines. He has encouraged mutual prayer between pastors and congregations by highlighting the interdependence of the church.

He also encouraged the congregation to be prayerful saying that people with pride do not pray. He advised the members to pray for pastors by quoting Galatians 6:6 and honour those who teach the word of God.

Rev. Kiewhuo also stressed on unity within the church stating that it is the body of Christ biblically and should not be divided along tribal lines. He reiterated the importance of oneness in faith and unity (Acts 4: 32). He added that the gospel is not about separatism but oneness in one father, one faith and in unity.

Rev. Kiewhuo further offered special prayer for the pastors of Kohima Lotha Baptist Church.

During the service, testimony was shared by Khriezovolie Suokhrie, chairman of Koinonia Baptist Church (KBC) men’s department, who survived from kidney failure.

The service was chaired by Renthungo Kikon, pastor of KLBC, while an invocation prayer was said by Y Sancheo Ovung, KLBC deacon, and a song was presented by KLBC adult choir.

A tribute to pastors was delivered by Mhayani Ngullie, while offertory prayer was said by Zubeni Humtsoe, director of CNY, and concluded with benediction said by Dr. K Benry Lotha, senior pastor.
