Rain brings respite from heat, light showers on Thursday

New Delhi, Aug 9 (IANS): The national capital on Wednesday experienced a respite from heat following heavy showers as mercury dipped by three degrees in the last 24 hours.

The maximum temperature on Wednesday was recorded at 32 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average. The minimum temperature was a notch above the season’s average at 28 degrees.

On Wednesday, Delhi saw an average rainfall of 28mm, while Lodhi road had 31.3mm, Ridge area saw 15.5mm, Aya Nagar 24.2mm and Palam saw 2.4mm of rainfall.

The weatherman, however, said that rains would drop drastically from Friday onwards, thereby suggesting rise in temperature in the coming days.

“The weather formation is shifting towards the foothills of Himalayas. Delhi will see light rain showers which may increase towards evening on Thursday,” an official from India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

On Wednesday, humidity oscillated between 97 and 78 per cent.

Tuesday’s maximum temperature was 35.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season’s average, and the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.5 degrees, the season’s average.
