Mokokchung, Oct. 7 (EMN): Minister for Higher Education and Tribal Affairs, Temjen Imna Along on Thursday said the battle against the Covid-19 pandemic is not over and urged the medical fraternity to focus on their role to complete their journey.
The minister was speaking during the inauguration of the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen plant at Dr. Imkongliba Memorial District Hospital (IMDH).
The oxygen plant was set up under PM Cares Fund phase I in collaboration with the department of Health and Family Welfare.
Along said that propaganda and negativity flooding on social media didn’t matter ‘but what is unseen and unheard of is the greatest battle for the people of Nagaland’.
“It would be frustrating for the medical fraternity to see negativism, nepotism and hypocrisy on social media; however, if you get too concerned about all that is happening around, then the battle for the society will be lost in the clueless world of propaganda and hypocrisy,” he stated.
He also said that the deprivation brought by the pandemic was ‘humongous,’ not only in the health sector but also the accumulated losses in resources and negative impact on the Agri sector. However, he lauded the positive attitude of the Ao people for coming together to fight the pandemic on all fronts, which he said, was truly ‘humanitas.’
Meanwhile, he said that though the whole country had gone through an economic downturn and the nation was struggling, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership provided good governance and relief to the nation.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Limawabang Jamir said that the oxygen plant will be an asset for the people of Mokokchung, providing a ‘breath of life’ for the people.
Congratulating the medical team for achieving approximately 80% vaccination of eligible individuals in the district, Jamir also urged the CMO to revamp the vaccination drive to achieve the 90% target.
He said that achieving the vaccination target plus people following Covid-19 appropriate behaviour may mitigate the third wave.
Ao Senden president, Chubawati Longchar urged the concerned department to ensure that the additional PSA oxygen plant be installed at the earliest and expedite the ongoing construction of IMDH.
“People are suffering because of the slow pace of construction of IMDH,” Longchar said.
The inaugural function was followed by the virtual dedication of the PSA Oxygen Plant in all the states by PM Modi.
The oxygen plant, which was commissioned last June, can generate 200 litre of medical oxygen per minute.
