Nagaland election 2023: Prohibitory order clamped in Thonoknyu over pre-poll violence
The Deputy Commissioner of Noklak, K. Mhathung Tsanglao, has issued a prohibitory order under 144 CrPC at Thonoknyu headquarters in Noklak district of Nagaland following a clash between the members of two political parties ahead of the state general election later this month.
A clash between the supporters of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) candidate L. Khumo and National People’s Party (NPP) candidate M. Benei Lamthiu took place on Sunday night, wherein members from both the parties were injured after they resorted to stone pelting and several vehicles damaged, according to an update from the district administration.
The order under section 144 CrPC ‘prohibits the assembly five or more persons, in Thonoknyu Hq and a perimeter of 200 meters around the town. Further, no political party shall be permitted to hold rallies or meetings in the said location during the enforcement of the prohibitory order.
“But the police, security Forces, Magistrates on Duty, Fire and Emergency services, Educational/Financial institutions, and departments/agencies assisting the district administration shall be exempted from the restrictions,” read the order, which came into “effect immediately and shall be applicable till 0600 hrs of 22nd February 2023 or till further orders”.
