DIMAPUR, MAY 22 : An unidentified gunman on Saturday midnight entered the residence of the state Home Minister’s son, Jackson Patton, at Sovima village in Dimapur and reportedly fled after firing three gunshots at the entrance gate.

According to the HM’s son, the incident happened after he arrived home from his father’s place at around 11.30 p.m Saturday. He said that the visit to his father’s place is a routine that he follows every Saturday.

Patton told reporters that there were knocks on the door of the room that he was sleeping in accompanied by a “banging” on the windows. Initially, he thought that the sounds were a result of the heavy winds that blew last night.

Thus an unsuspecting Patton asked his nanny, a teenage girl, to check on the doors and windows to ensure they were properly locked. After the girl went downstairs to check, he recounted, he could hear her screaming.

Reportedly, the girl saw “a man dressed in full black with a head band and black boots” carrying a “sophisticated gun and a knife” inside the house, which had prompted her scream. Quite curiously the intruder, who is suspected to be a Naga, is said to have left using the emergency exit in the house which is not known to many, according to Patton.

On hearing the scream, Patton called for his unarmed guards stationed inside the residence but the intruder had fled by the time they arrived the scene. One of the rooms, where Patton used to sleep earlier, was later found ransacked and some licensed firearms missing. Except for the guns, no other items were stolen.

When the incident occurred, the gatekeeper was said to have been sleeping while the rain coupled with heavy winds had cut off electric supply outside the house. Dimapur police authorities also visited the scene on Sunday morning for investigation.

Reportedly, the police recovered a polythene bag containing footwear items and shawls from outside the gate where shots were fired. PRO of Dimapur Police, Shouka Khakheto told Eastern Mirror that the case is under investigation.

He also informed that security arrangements have been provided to the family.  An FIR against the incident has been registered at Diphupar Police Station.
