PMMVY benefit for pregnant women, lactating mothers

Kohima, June 6 (EMN): Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) is a maternity benefit scheme implemented in different districts of the country. In Nagaland, it is implemented by the department of Social Welfare.
Under PMMVY, a cash incentive of INR 5000 (in three installments) is provided through direct benefit transfer in the account of pregnant women and lactating mothers for the `first live birth’ of the family subject to fulfillment of specific conditions.
The objective of the scheme is to provide partial compensation for the wage loss in terms of cash incentives as well as to improve the health seeking behaviour amongst the pregnant women and lactating mothers.
All eligible beneficiaries can avail the benefit by taking the assistance of the respective anganwadi workers.
The total number of beneficiaries from Wokha district is 2,421 till date, a source informed.
