Participants and officials at the DCDP meet at  Chuchuyimpang village community hall in Mokokchung on October 10.

MOKOKCHUNG — Maongsangla, Deputy District Agriculture Officer, Mokokchung, stated on Tuesday that Nagaland must return INR 4,34,000 to the central government due to ineligible beneficiaries in the PM-Kisan scheme, with 22 beneficiaries identified as ineligible.

Speaking during the Dak Community Development Programme (DCDP) meet, which was held at Chuchuyimpang village community hall in Mokokchung, she cautioned that only individuals eligible according to government directives will be listed.

The event brought together government officials and members of the community to discuss and promote various government programmes and services.

Maongsangla, discussing agricultural schemes, including PM-Kisan, which provides financial support to farmers, stressed the need for accurate beneficiary registration to prevent misuse of funds.

She stated that PM-Kisan pays a quarterly payment of INR 6,000 and that there are currently 15,283 registered beneficiaries in Mokokchung district, but new registrations have been halted due to the discovery of many ineligible recipients. She, however, maintained that new registrations will resume through village councils soon.

Temsumoa Imsong, Chairman of the Chuchuyimpang Village Council, emphasised the importance of the post office as a vital means of communication in the past and lauded the department for its commitment to bringing government to people’s doorsteps.

Tajunginla, Coordinator of Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), highlighted the PMMVY scheme and explained that the scheme covers the family’s first child and second child (if a girl child) from 2021 onwards.

She revealed that the scheme is under the Social Welfare department and has more than 2,000 beneficiaries in the state.

Mangliyangba, District Welfare Officer, highlighted several government schemes for the benefit of both urban and rural citizens, including the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS), Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS), and Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS).

Postmaster Mokokchung MDG, I Narola Jamir, talked about various postal services aimed at assisting the community in her speech. She emphasised that the post office has evolved in tandem with the changing world, offering various schemes such as savings, recovery, monthly income, the National Savings School, and the Girl Child Policy with an 8% interest rate.

She also introduced Dak Ghar Niryat Kendra (DNK), an initiative of the department of Posts and Central Board of Excise and Customs, to the gathering and explained that DNK allows small exporters to electronically file a portal bill of export and submit parcels for export at designated centres, facilitating self-help groups engaged in the export of goods.

She mentioned that Kohima serves as the head office, overseeing 42 sub-offices within the state and 288 branch offices. An additional 70 branch offices are slated to be implemented soon in areas lacking banking facilities.

Simranjit Gumbar, Manager of India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), emphasised the benefits of IPPB, while L Tiken Singh, Superintendent of the Nagaland postal division, stressed the role of Indian postal services in promoting financial literacy and socioeconomic development.

The event saw the participation of 24 self-help groups (SHGs), local officials, and villagers.
