Dimapur, June 7 (EMN): To mark the launch of its year-long silver jubilee celebration, the Western Sumi Totimi Hoho (WSTH) organised a plantation drive at Sumi Cultural Centre in Vihokhu village under Niuland district on Tuesday. The event also marked the 24th foundation day of WSTH

Formed in the year 1998, WSTH will celebrate its silver jubilee day on June 7, 2023. It covers nine areas and has 15 units.

WSTH president, Visheli S Yeptho, said that the programme was organised to commemorate the World Environment Day coinciding with its foundation day on June 7. She expressed hope that such noble deeds would motivate and inspire many, saying, “We have always been inspired by such deeds, so we hope that many such kinds of activities will follow in the days to come.”

She thanked the Forest department of Dimapur division for donating about 200 tree saplings. She updated that they will be organizing a year-long programme celebration for the forthcoming silver jubilee.

Also speaking at the event, president of Sumi Hoho, Nikheto Zhimo, expressed that the Sumi community is broken at present and therefore declared 2022 as the ‘Year of Sumi Unity.’ Calling for retrospection among all members of the community, he urged everyone to make ‘Sumi Unity’ a mission. He also mentioned that women have a God-given gift of being peacemakers and also shoulder the huge responsibility of moulding the society.

He further expressed that he was encouraged to witness such unity among the women at a time when the society was broken and further urged them to continue to remain steadfast.

“Many tribes also reside in Western Sumi areas, so foster unity and peace not only among the Sumis but also among the rest of the communities,” he said.

It was informed that the Cultural Centre was donated to the community by Justice S Hukato Swu, president of State Commission Consumer Redressal Forum, and his wife Khesheli Chishi, district and session judge of Kohima.

Tovihoto Ayemi, advisor of Power; Khehovi Yepthomi, advisor of Tourism, Art and Culture; Y Vikheho Swu, MLA and chairman of Pughoboto sub-division planning and development board; MLAs Azheto Zhimomi and Picto Shohe were also present and participated in the tree plantation drive.
