Peace Channel Peren observes International Day of Peace

The Peace Club members along with the teacher animators and coordinators of Peace Channel at Town Hall, Peren on Thursday, Sep. 21.

Dimapur, Sep. 21 (EMN): The Peace Channel Peren chapter observed the International Day of Peace on Sep. 21 on the theme, “Together for Peace: Respect, safety and dignity for all,” at Town Hall Peren town, which also marks the 11th Foundation Day of Peace Channel.
Associate Coordinator (Peren) of Peace Channel, Haipeurangbe Moses, gave a presentation on Peace Channel’s vision, mission and activities.
In his power presentation he noted that Peace Channel is an emerging secular youth peace movement of the third millennium aiming at the transformation of the individuals as peace lovers, peace makers and peace promoters. He also screened multimedia presentation on Peace Channel.
Coordinator of the Peren chapter, P David Ndang, spoke on the significance of the day and emphasised on the theme of the programme. Citing United Nation Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, he said “we must resist cynical efforts to divide communities and the idea of portraying someone who looks different as the other.”
He also shared about the importance of showing support for refugees and migrants, basing on the screened animated video launched by United Nations Department of Public Information of Yusra Mardini and Ishak who were refugees to other countries, he stressed on the importance of acceptance. “Opening our hearts, joining hands and reaching out to refugees and migrants, we can move closer to attaining peace, prosperity and protection for all,” he added.
Teacher animator ASHSS George said the movement had its inception in Jalukie, Peren district and urged the students to make the district a model for promoting peace.
Special numbers from Peace club members of All Saints Higher Secondary School and Baptist Higher Secondary School. The programme also included peace celebration which is the hallmark of the movement. The programme was attended by four Peace club established schools in Peren town.
