NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 24

Batting for a cleaner and healthier futrure, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday asked the over 10 lakh-cadet strong National Cadet Corps (NCC) to joint the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’.
If each cadet resolves to pick up 1 kg of non-biodegradable waste then the NCC can remove three million kg of waste, Parrikar said at an NCC function here.He also congratulated the students for getting into Limca Book of Records for the largest yoga performance simultaneously at multiple venues by a single uniformed youth organisation on the International Yoga Day.
“While yoga was a discipline direction exercise, just imagine if one cadet of NCC energises three more, from his neighborhood or friend circle and picks up one kg of non-biodegradable waste, particularly plastic, I think you will collect three million kg of plastic which otherwise would have been spread around,” Parrikar said.
He said this can be done on a voluntary basis.
“If they decide to pick up and clean then Swachh Bharat would be on a high pedestal, much higher than which we will otherwise anticipate,” Parrikar said.
We lose thousands of crore in medical treatment which can be avoided by being aware of how to avoid any problem, he added.
Parrikar then congratulated the NCC for performance of yoga by more than 9.5 lakh cadets on International Day of Yoga, conducted pan India at 1,804 venues, including Leh in the North, Dwarka in the West, Tezu (Arunachal Pradesh) in the East, Nagarcoil (Kanyakumari) in the South and in the islands of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep.
