Parents told to adopt nutrition diet for children

DIMAPUR — Advocating the importance of diet and nutrition for school going children, the principal director of School Education, Thavaseelan K, has urged the parents to adopt nutrition diet by promoting organic vegetables and fruits in kitchen garden.

He stated this during the mid day meal mela and exhibition of school kitchen garden products competition, an initiative of MDM Project under the department of School Education, at Ahthibung town public ground in Peren district on Friday. He informed that the mid day meal scheme was launched in 1995 and first implemented in Tamil Nadu, pioneered by the former chief minister, K Kamaraj.

Thavaseelan informed that in 2007 the scheme became a national programme and was named as PM POSHAN (Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman) scheme in September 2021 by the Ministry of Education.

He also encouraged the students to respect their parents who support them for their education. He also conveyed gratitude to everyone for their tirelessly work in the successful implementation of the mid day meal scheme in Ahthibung sub-division.

Also speaking at the programme, Khriekethozo Lhoungu, nodal officer of PM Poshan, informed that the scheme is designed to better the nutritional standing of school-age children nationwide. He also highlighted the main objectives and significant of PM Poshan scheme.

A song was presented by students of GMS and GHSS Ahthibung, while Kuki cultural dance was presented by students of GPS New Chalkot and GMS Ahthibung town. A Zeliang cultural dance was also presented by Beisumpuiram village cultural troupe.

After the programme, the special guest along with other dignitaries visited the stalls organised by various schools under EBRC Ahthibung.
