Dimapur, Jan. 6: The NSCN (IM) has also opposed the construction of border fencing ‘in the heart of Naga homeland in eastern Nagaland between India and Myanmar’. The group issued a press statement Friday stating “strong objection” to the construction.

“It is an injustice committed on the Nagas affecting social, religious, economic and natural environment where even the animals are force to live under such cruelty. Such artificial boundary fencing imposed upon the Naga people is against the will of the people is gross violation of human rights.
“Despite all the atrocities, the oppression and the secret war waged upon the Nagas both in India and Myanmar, the NSCN in response to the wishes of the people for peace, engages political talks with government of India leading to the signing of Framework Agreement. Now on the verge of final solution, the motive of construction of artificial border fencing, initiated and funded by the government of India with the reluctant Myanmar, along the Naga home land is highly questionable and unacceptable,” it stated.

The Naga people, according to the NSCN (IM), have the right to maintain and protect its own territory, identity, and social and political institution. “We shall no longer accept any policy to further divide the Naga family in the form of artificial boundary fencing between India and Myanmar. The Nagas will defend their ancestral land at all cost.

“The NSCN seriously viewed that overriding and ignoring the will and interest of the people may arise (sic) unfavourable situation with heavy consequences and the sole responsibility shall be borne by both India and Myanmar.”
