Dimapur, Nov. 15: Nagaland’s directorate of Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship is all set to organise a two-day career workshop and a job fair for youths during Nov 17-18 at the Agri Expo, Angh House, in Dimapur.
This two-day event will give an opportunity to unemployed youths of the age group 18-25 years to be employed in five sectors namely the airlines, restaurants, beauty and wellness, five-star hotels and retail outlets outside Nagaland.
Principal Consultant for the fair Aditya Baran Mallik, also the CEO & director of Institute for Quality Skill Training (IQST) at Kolkata, assured that jobs will be given ‘on the spot’ to deserving candidates. The target for aspirants will be not just from the urban sectors but from the rural areas as well, it was informed.
Mallik gave updates about a survey that was undertaken: out of 4000 youths between the ages 18 and 25 years in the rural areas, 83% said that they were happy to work in the private sector; 65% were willing to go out of Nagaland if a job opportunity arises.
The two-day event will offer career guidance and counselling to job seekers as not many know the industry, he said.
Also, Neiphrezo Keditsu, parliamentary secretary for Labour & Employment, Skill Dev. & Entrepreneurship (L&E, SD&E) said that the programme was a good opportunity for Naga youths interested in working in the private sector; most seek careers is in the government sector. He talked about the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) scheme as well. It is a skill development initiative by the central government to recognise and standardise skills and by which persons who do not get recruited during the job fair can still be trained and placed in jobs under the scheme for free.
Due to fears of racial discrimination outside the state for many young aspirants, the department assured that the security of the candidates will be “top most priority.” Further, all employment will be under well-known national and international companies. The safeguard will be provided under the company, it was informed.
The recruitment process will have no middlemen as well. Direct employers and companies will be present to hire candidates with proper documents. This was informed during the event as many fear of hidden costs and agendas.
Candidates can apply online at www.nagaland.gov.in till Nov. 18 where shortlisted applicants will be sent an ‘admit card’ message by SMS and will have to show the SMS with a valid photo ID to gain admission to the job fair.
Applicants can walk into the event on Nov. 17 to apply and attend career counselling and guidance for better assessment of interview and recruitment on Nov. 18.
