Teachers are the builders of the Nation was a slogan we made during one of our school’s annual functions.
Reminiscing after some decades, I still hold on to this very truth that, teachers are the ones who built us to what we are today and not as Nee.
It is this maxim that teaching as a profession is being revered and referred to as Noble. And our Nation’s destiny was shaped by great teachers like Dr.S.Radhakrishnan,Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru , Rabindranath Tagore et al.
Today capitalism and materialism has waned us away to other forms of adoration and respect .But in the early days when the nagas were naïve,pure and undefiled, teachers were respected and honored as pandit. So much so that students in turn will accompany their teachers walking 30/40 kms during vacation. A teacher is a teacher whether one is in service( Government or private) or retired.Honoring and celebrating teachers’day with the retirees will make the day even more commemorative and significant. On this great teachers’ day, I salute and give reverence to all the teachers living and dead and also to this year ‘s National, state and District teacher’s awardees.
I also take this day to show reverence to all my great teachers and to mention some few like R.O’Hara, Valentine, Anthony,Mathew,H.P.Singh,P.sarkar, C.Nribemo, L.Libemo et al. Blessings and bliss is always with you all as is with my teacher father who on this July completed 32 years of blissful retired life, that becomes at par with the length of service he rendered to the government- for they superannuated at 55 years of age then.
This tribute to teachers is in fond remembrance of those unsung pensioners who had given their best for the nation’s building.
LONG LIVE ! TEACHERS’ DAY.
