NYB lift Under 15 Five Men Marep Royals Trophy 2016

Mokokchung, Dec. 12: Defending champions Newwells Young Boyz (NYB) clinched the Under 15 Five Men Marep Royals Trophy 2016 defeating underdogs China Vicks 3-1 in the finals at Marepkong playground today.
China Vicks found the net by scoring the fastest goal of the match in the very first minute of the play through Opangtemjen.
Though China Vicks boys displayed some good footballing during the first few minutes, NYB senior players quickly made use of their experience through counter-attacks. The NYB netted their first goal in the 17th minute through the boots of Yimkumer to level the score at 1-1.
With only three minutes remaining for lemon break, both the teams tried to increase their score but all their efforts were in vain.
After the break, NYB attempted some crucial shots but could not find the net. China Vicks too got some opportunities but could not convert them into goals. The NYB dominated the play in the second half but could not penetrate into China Vicks’ net.
As both teams were locked 1-1 till the final whistle, extra time of eight minutes was given.
During the extra time, NYB found some gap in China Vicks’ defence with quick attacks. Rongsentsulak booted in the second goal for NYB in the 42nd minute while Reshilong netted the winning goal for NYB in the 46th minute to take score to 3-1.Meanwhile, the Marep Royals Academic Scholarship for 2017 was bagged by 13-year-old Walutemjen, a student of class-VII of Queen Mary Higher Secondary School. He was selected for the scholarship for his ability to play football in synchronize manner both with his team and opponent alike.
The scholarship aims to promote the upcoming youngsters in football and education holistically in the district. It is directly handed over to the school authority for his academic session.
