DIMAPUR — Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) has condemned the heinous acts perpetrated towards women during the recent conflict in Manipur stating that such acts of violence are a grave violation of human rights and dignity, which is unforgivable.

“The targeting of women and their bodies being used as instruments during conflicts is an abhorrent tactic that seeks to instil fear, perpetrate trauma and shatter the very fabric of society. We call upon parties involved to immediately cease all forms of violence and adhere to international humanitarian laws that protect the rights and safety of civilians particularly vulnerable groups like women and children,” said NSCW chairperson, W Nginyeih Konyak.

NSCW stated that those responsible for such reprehensible acts should be held accountable and brought to justice at the earliest. It also urged the authorities to conduct thorough and impartial investigations to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to trial.

NSCW has expressed solidarity with all the victims in this time of great pain and suffering. It added our society needs to unite to support them, promote healing and work towards a future where peace, understanding and respect for one another prevail. It has wished that Manipur would emerge stronger and more resilient with a renewed commitment to a harmonious and inclusive society from this dark chapter.

NSCW stated that it is tirelessly working to ensure that the basic requirements are addressed in any capacity for women in distress and people in general. It added that the Commission would continue extending any possible help to address issues in restoring peace.
