The division office of ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF) in Mokokchung district was damaged in an explosion. However, there was no report of any casualty, police said today.
SP Mokokchung M Vikram Khalate said two IED explosions took place simultaneously in two rooms of the ruling NPF Mokokchung Division Office at around 12:30 am today.
The rooms have been completely damaged, the SP said, adding no casualty has been reported in the explosion.
Khalate said police is conducting preliminary investigation but no arrest has been made.Meanwhile, castaway NPF legislator Imkong L Imchen today described his party central office’s decision to dissolve the NPF Mokokchung Division as “totally uncalled for” and something “very painful and regrettable.”
In a press statement, Imchen – who was stripped off his portfolio as Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the recent cabinet reshuffle by the new Chief Minister TR Zeliang – said other “punitive measures” were at hand for the NPF central command, while adding that the decision to dissolve the NPF Mokokchung division was “the most extreme.”
“The NPF Mokokchung Division is the biggest division in the state having ten assembly constituencies in the state with diverse political situation and environment which they have overcome all these obstacles and successfully put the NPF party on solid ground firmly,” Imchen sought to remind his party command through the press statement.
He said that the Division had not committed no anti-party activities whatsoever at any point of time. “If the NPF Mokokchung Division has spoken their anguish on the issue of dropping myself and Merentoshi from the cabinet, it does not amount to committing anti-party activities just that they have spoken the truth.”
The most striking comment from Imchen, who has had more than his share of controversy, perhaps was contained in his concluding statement. “I can only hope that this should not be the beginning of disintegration and dismantling of NPF party itself,” he cautioned. “To establish a political party is not a matter of joke and never an easy task.”
In a separate statement, Imchen has also condemned the attack on NPF office building by some unscrupulous people on Monday night.
“The incident took place when I was here in Mokokchung and as such their motive behind the incident was obviously to malign my image,” Imchen said while adding that such attempts would not be successful.
