NPF MLA Awangbow Newmai sworn in as minister in Manipur

Imphal, May 29 (EMN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) MLA Awangbow Newmai was sworn in as Cabinet Minister at a ceremony held at Banquet Hall, Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Friday.

The governor of Manipur, Dr. Najma Heptulla, administered the oath of office and secrecy.

Awangbow Newmai, who is also the NPF Manipur unit president, is the sitting MLA from Tamei Assembly Constituency in Tamenglong district.

After the swearing-in-ceremony, the newly sworn in minister Awangbow Newmai said that he is grateful to the Governor and the chief minister of Manipur for making him as one of the ministers in the Biren Singh ministry.

He also stated that he is grateful to the party president and colleagues for nominating him to be the minister. The former school headmaster further said that he will discharge his duties as a minister and whatever assignment has been given with utmost sincerity.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh, Ministers Th Biswajit (Works), L Jayantakumar (Health), V Hangkhanlian (Agriculture), Karam Shyam (Revenue), L Dikho (PHED), Dr. Th Radheshyam (Education), N Kayisii (Fisheries), Lok Sabha MPs Dr. RK Ranjan, Dr. Lorho Pfoze, MLAs L Sushindro, V Vungzagin, K Leishiyo, chief secretary and DGP among others were present in the swearing in ceremony.

With the day’s development, the NPF which have four legislators in the state’s 60 member assembly have two ministers in the coalition government.

Other minister was L Dikho of Mao assembly constituency.

The ruling BJP has five ministers, National People’s Party has four and Lok Janshakti Party has one.

It may be mentioned that NPF Manipur unit had been demanding ministerial berth in the coalition government.
