Northeast folk dance fest held at Kohima

The Northeast folk dance fest organised by the department of Social Welfare and State Resource Centre for Women in collaboration with song & drama division, ministry of information & broadcasting Government of India was held at SIRD Auditorium Kohima on Friday.
Participants from Nagaland, Tripura and Assam took part at the fest where various cultural folk dances and songs were performed.
Addressing at the inaugural function, Dhruv Awasthi deputy director, songs and drama, ministry of Information and Broadcasting Government of India in his address said song and drama division is the biggest media that goes from village to village in India for intra personal communication.
Dhruv Awasthi said the ministry has more than 10,000 artists all over the country and is aimed at achieving 20,000 shows in 161 identified districts and said it will try all possible ways to achieve the target set by the ministry.
OT Chingmak Chang, IAS Secretary, department of social welfare in his keynote address thanked the ministry for promoting performance comprising of traditional and folk forms and the interest shown by the ministry towards the folk dance of the northeast.
He said that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao which was launched officially by the chief minister of Nagaland on 13 Oct. 2015 is being implemented in the state under the State Resource Centre for Women and the district administrative of Longleng district. This scheme is to help ensure that the future of girls are empowered through education.
He also stated that this scheme should become widely spread with collaborative efforts of various departments and media to create awareness while benefiting the public in the state. “Let us make the girl child – our support today – our security tomorrow – a success, and make it a reality” he added.
Several cultural groups like Samannay Kshetra Guwahati, Kekhrie Troupe Kohima, Sanghati Sanskritik Sangstha Agartala, Zion Cultural Troup Kohima and artistes from Song and Drama division Guwahati centre and special appearance by Dreams Unlimited shared stage during the cultural session.
It maybe motioned that Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (save the girl child educate her) was launched by Prime Minister Narender Modi, on Jan. 22 2015. The overall goal of the BBBP scheme is to celebrate the girl child and enable girl’s education.
