Citizens should not pay fee for water supply when there is no water supply, the department of Public Health Engineering in Mokokchung district has been told. A local youth group met with officials of the department and of the Power division recently.
Local youth activists Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) met with officials of the district’s Power department and the PHED on March 28 “to take stock of the power and water supply in Mokokchung town.” The group issued a press release on Wednesday offering highlights of the meeting.
The organization said to have discussed “important concerns” with the executive engineer of PHED. “He highlighted the projects of the department to ensure proper water supply to the citizens in town. The department is working to take stock of the damaged pipes along the techipami source. In the meantime, he said that the department is initiating short-term relief water supply to meet immediate needs like bore wells and water tankers and such projects have already been submitted to the higher authority for approval.”
The MTLT said it was “pleased to learn that the PHED, Mokokchung, is taking steps to solve the water requirements in the town.” Accordingly, the group has asked the government of Nagaland to speed up the process of completion of projects. “Finally, there must be no charge, which is Rs 30, when there is no water supply,” the group added.
Also, the members of the MTLT said to have placed some “some key points” to the department of Electricity with regard to the power supply in the town.
“The reason for meeting the power department was to make aware of the constant power fluctuations in the recent past.
The MTLT demanded 24×7 power supply in the town given the fact that the citizens are paying the bills regularly. Besides, the power allotment must be in proportion to the payment of the bills,” the press release explained. The MTLT hoped that the department would “heed the demands of the citizens of immediately.”
