DIMAPUR — The North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) is set to conduct an essay writing competition for the youths of the region on the topic, ‘The role of youth in preserving and promoting indigenous and native socio-cultural traditions amidst the modern world’.
According to a press release, the medium of the competition for the age group of 15 to 24 years is English. Essays between 1,300 and 1,500 words, written in the participant’s own handwriting, should be submitted on or before May 20.
It said the writers may highlight the native socio-cultural traditions during the life cycle, which are now gradually diminishing in the modern world. It may include the social norms and every paraphernalia in events right from birth till death in his or her own community. How he or she will advocate, initiate or take part in fulfilling the objectives of preserving and promoting indigenous cultural traditions and promoting those diminishing socio-cultural traditions as a youth in his or her community.
It was further informed that writers should enclose a self-attested photocopy of their Aadhaar card or ID card or birth certificate. The prize distribution is as follows: The first prize is INR 40,000, the second prize is INR 30,000, the third prize is INR 20,000, and there are 11 consolation prizes, each worth INR 5,000.
All winners will receive a trophy and a certificate. The prize distribution ceremony will take place on World Indigenous Day, August 9. The venue will be announced in advance.
It was mentioned that writers should provide the following details in block letters: name in full, parents’ names, address (current and permanent), date of birth, name of the institution (if a student), name of the firm (if working), email address, and contact number.
