DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 8: FOR the first time, more than 75 NCC air cadets from Nagaland and other north eastern states now have a story: they got the opportunity to fly a real aircraft.
“Enthusiasm and confidence of more than 75 NCC air cadets from Nagaland and other north eastern states knew no bounds when for the first time they flew a Zen Air CH 701 aircraft at Dimapur,” a press release from the NCC GP HQ Kohima issued to the media on Saturday stated.
The aircraft was stated to have been specially flown in for them from Aizawl for a flying training.
“The flying training culminated in to actual flying under supervision of efficient training staff posted under north eastern region NCC directorate (of) Shillong and it coincided with the 84th anniversary of Indian Air Force,” the press release stated.
The Additional Director General of the NCC, North Eastern Region took special interest “in overcoming administrative and technical hurdles” to make the dream of the NCC cadets come true, the statement said.
Cades of the NCC air wing at Dimapur are undergoing flying training since October 3 to participate in the All India Vayu Sainik Camp that is scheduled to be conducted at Jodhpur in Rajasthan from October 16. Altogether 40 cadets will represent the north eastern region.
The current training is a precursor to the training that they will undergo subsequently when two newly acquired GARUD Microlite aircrafts join the 1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC next year, the organisers stated.
“1 Nagaland Air Squadron NCC under NCC Group Headquarters Kohima shall be the pioneers to operate the newly acquired Slovekian made Garud aircraft in the entire northeast,” the establishment stated.
The department of Youth Resources and Sports and the establishment of the general manager, AAI, at Dimapur airport have contributed immensely to making “the distant reality of getting this aircraft for training and the subsequent imported ones a reality by allowing the use of hanger, construction of taxi track and provision of other infrastructure at Dimapur Airport,” the press release added.
