Recipient of national teacher award felicitated

Kohima, Sep. 15 (EMN): Recipient of National Teacher Award 2022 from Nagaland, Mimi Yhoshü, head teacher of Government Middle School (GMS) at Officers’ Hill, Kohima, was felicitated by the teachers, students, and residents during a programme held at the school premises on September 15.
Representatives from All Nagaland Private School Teachers’ Association (ANPSTA) and leaders of Officers’ Hill Colony and others congratulated her during the programme.
Yhoshü was among the seven teachers from the Northeastern states, who received the prestigious award from the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, on September 5 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

Mirror, she expressed happiness on receiving the award. She said the award comes with responsibility and assured to ‘give her best in doing justice to the award.’
While narrating the problem on shortage of classrooms to accommodate all the students, Yhoshü said she initiated and raised funds with the help of fellow teachers, students and their parents and guardians as well as the school management.
It was informed that the same drew the attention of the then Governor of Nagaland, BP Acharya, who donated building material, following which two kutcha classrooms were constructed in 2018.
Later in 2021, the colony replaced the kutcha classrooms with a concretebuilding.
“This is one of the school buildings that was built under my initiation without the aid of the government,” said Yhoshü.
Apart from cognitive development, the teacher said that she has been giving equal emphasis on life skills and co-curricular activities.
It was learnt that different activities were conducted for the students and teachers, wherein resources persons were invited to train the children to knit, crochet or stitch pot holders, and make brooms using low cost or used clothes.
She also informed that the children were taught to make decorative items like baskets, pen holders andflowers out of degradable wastes like waste papers, tissue papers, etc.
Quoting the famous saying “Work is worship,” she encouraged the teachers to develop a sense of ownership, be sincere, work hard, believe in themselves and be dedicated while executing their responsibility.
“Whatever may come, your hard work and sacrifices will surely pay off one day,” Yhoshü said.
“I would like to dedicate this award to my beloved students, colleagues, teachers and my family for always being my support system, backbone and pillar, without which I would not have been here today,” she said.
She acknowledged the school management committee, parents and guardians of the students and the community of Officers’ Hill for the consistent support and encouragement throughout her journey.
During the felicitation programme, Yhoshü assured cash award of INR 5000 to any student from her school, who secure distinction in both Mathematics and Science subjects in board examinations till she is in the school.
