National Science Day observed across Nagaland

Dimapur, Feb. 28 (EMN): Commemorating the work of physicist C V Raman in the field of light scattering, National Science Day was celebrated on the theme ‘Integrated approach in science and technology for sustainable future’ across Nagaland on Feb. 28.

Longleng: The District administration and Mahila Shakti Kendra, Longleng conducted inter-school science exhibition competition at VDB Hall, Longleng on Monday, a press release informed.

Models presented by the students included sewage treatment plant, soil erosion, assembling and working of robotic, wind turbine, kaleidoscope.

Christian High School, Longleng secured the first position, while Phom Lempong School, Longleng and Shamakok Mission School, Longleng secured the second and third position respectively. The winners were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.

Welcome address was delivered by Phungla Phom, WWO MSK Longleng, who also gave a brief note on the signicance of the celebration.

A total of 25 girl students participated in the competition, which was attended by Phom students conference executives, teachers and students from all blocks.

Baptist Mission School, Jotsoma: Baptist Mission School also observed National Science Day by conducting a quiz competition on “Science and Technology” on February 28.

The headmaster of the school VJ Thomas exhorted the students on the importance of National Science Day, and to maintain scientific temperament throughout life. It said that four teams comprising three members each participated in the quiz competition. Neizo Ciesotsu, the Science teacher of Baptist Mission School was the quizmaster of the day, it added

Sao Chang College: Sao Chang college celebrated National Science Day by organising competitions in three categories — model, poster and debate.

Dipak Nath, assistant professor, dept. of Physics, explained the history and significance of the day at the programme. The programme was chaired by Takumbuba of B.A. 6th Semester, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Along Longchari, assistant professor, dept. of Mathematics.

The programme was conducted successfully with eager and enthusiastic participation from students and staff of the college.

MITE: Modern College of Teacher Education, Kohima also observed the day at the College Auditorium. The programme started with an invocation by Pitoholi Chophi followed by a brief introduction about National Science Day by Phamlong L Konyak.

The speaker gave a talk about the importance and the role played by science and technology for a sustainable future and its role in achieving sustainable development. She also mentioned about the impact of science and technology on modern society.

Model presentation was done with chemicals by Betoka L Chophy and Kedo Khate. The program concluded with a prayer by Ms. Chosevolu Nyekha.
